What inspired you to become a dietitian, and how did you get started in this field?

My curiosity! It was what initially inspired me to consider dietetics for my studies. I am always in awe of the work our bodies do with every function, but at the same time, I preferred the field of prevention much more than “cure,” so studying the nutrition of the body for optimal well-being was a perfect fit. It certainly tied in with all of my natural inclinations and was a conscious choice that time only confirmed.

What are some of the most common nutrition-related concerns you hear from your clients, and how do you address them?

Initially, most people are probably looking to learn about ideal combinations, numbers, carbohydrates, diets, etc., whatever may be a trend. When these are easily answered, they understand that the difficult thing is to put all the theory into practice. So, from my perspective, counseling, repetition, countersuggestions, and encouragement play a vital role in addressing their concerns.

What advice would you give the GSN community about work, motherhood, and personal care, and how would it help them balance these priorities in their lives?

We all share such dilemmas, and the most important thing to remember is “only when we ourselves are well taken care of, can we take care of others and succeed in every field.” As residents of Sweden, we have the advantage of living with the best conditions for wellness services, from companies to employees on longer parental leave, for example.

How can nutrition transform a person’s life beyond physical health?

Diet has no magic wand to transform anything. It is your food, your nourishment, your daily fuel to run your body. By taking care of your body, you are also taking care of your soul and spirit. Nutrition can have a profound impact on a person’s overall well-being, from their mental and emotional health to their physical health. It is about taking care of oneself holistically.
